Since 1925, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has connected businesses of all sizes from all sectors and from all regions of the country to advocate for public policies that will foster a strong, competitive environment that benefits businesses, communities and families across Canada.  The presentation will focus on current topics like the Trans Pacific Partnership and other trade agreements, and the Chamber’s advocacy efforts.

        The Honorable Perrin Beatty PC, is the President and CEO of the 200,000 member Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s largest and most representative national business association.  Perrin grew up in Fergus, Ontario and graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1971.  In 1972, he was elected to the House of Commons as a Progressive Conservative.  In 1979, he became the youngest cabinet minister in Canadian history during Joe Clark’s short-lived government. He served in number of major cabinet posts, including National Revenue, Solicitor General and Defense, during the Mulroney government from 1984 – 1993, and was External Affairs minister during Kim Campbell’s short-lived government in 1993.  He has since held a number of prominent public roles, including CEO of CBC (1995 – 1999), CEO of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (1999-2007) and CEO of Canadian Chamber of Commerce (2007 to present).

        Over the years, Perrin has received numerous awards and honorary degrees, and has been Chancellor of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology since 2008.  He is a member of the advisory council of the Canadian Defense and Foreign Affairs Institute and is on the Board of Directors of Canadian International Council and of Mitsui Canada.
