Undergraduate Feature: Natasha Kozak

Natasha Kozak is a 3rd year economics co-op student

Q: Why did you choose to study economics?

A: After taking my first economics course I became intrigued by how economics can explain and predict the world around us.

Q: Where have you worked for co-op?

I worked as a Macroeconomist at the Ontario Ministry of Finance (worked on the 2019 Provincial budget), as a Business Systems Analyst at Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (reviewing player account processes) and am now an Online Learning Assistant in the Economics Department here at UW (helping facilitate online courses for the spring term).

Q: What is your favourite economics course you have taken so far?

A: That’s a tough one. ECON221 is probably my favourite core course because it introduced the breadth of research and analysis possibilities through probability and econometrics. Public economics, ECON241, was another favourite because of my interest in government. One of the more practical electives was ECON371: Financial Economics: an interesting course because it simplified the seemingly complex world of stocks/bonds/loans/mortgages.

Q: Do you have any special or interesting talents?

A: A talent for making my friends groan due to my love of puns and bad jokes.

Q: What would be the best piece of advice you would give to other students?

Academically: plan your courses from the beginning, it makes life simpler later. University in general: talk to everyone; the variety of perspectives from the extremely intelligent people around you will teach you just as much as your classes will.
