A: University of British Columbia and McMaster University

Q: What area of study in economics do you specialize in?

A: Labour economics

Q: What research are you currently working on?

A: COVID-19 impact on the labour market

Q: Why economics? What is your favorite thing about it?

A: It examines refutable hypotheses.

Q: How long have you been teaching at uWaterloo?

A: I’ve been teaching at Waterloo since 2005.

Q: What classes do you teach?

A:   I teach labour economics and econometrics.

Q: Do you have any special or interesting talents?

A: I believe I’m the best hockey player in my department.

Q: Any piece of advice you would like to give to current economics students?

A: As you get bogged down in the technical details of the theory and methodology, as you inevitably will, do not lose sight of the big important questions.
